My Teaching Practice (Pt.1: 1st Teaching)

At the first time making the lesson plan, I saw many differences from the lesson plan I learned before. The difference is based on the format and the components of the lesson plan. It is because the different curriculum used and different needs. But overall the lesson plans have same purpose to guide teacher in conducting the teaching. I need to adapt in deciding the activity at the first time because the students’ condition is different from the students I met before. I need to design activities which can be adjusted by the students here, such as games, group activity which can warm them up into the lesson. I received a lot of suggestion from my supervisor and teaching team for the activity which can be accepted by the students and related to the lesson. I also learned many valuable activities by observing the others’ lesson plans.
Teaching demo that I did is also different from my experience before. The real classroom with real students and its own characteristics are different. Even each class has different characteristic and I also need to give different treatment for each classes. But the only thing which I have to be concern is that I need to make sure that the students are really into the lesson, understand what they learned and use language itself in real context. In this teaching practicum, I had four sessions in two classes. I taught two sessions each class per weeks. There are many differences of each class I taught, such as the number of the students, the students’ characteristic and the activity I used to teach in every meeting.
 First time I designed the lesson plan, I felt confuse in designing the appropriate activity to the students here. I got many suggestions from my supervisor and my teammates. After my first lesson plan finished, I practiced before have my teaching demo. My first teaching practice was on Wednesday, March 6th, 2019. On that day, the topic I taught was Unit 10 (Living Your Life), Lesson A (He taught himself), Part 1 (Vocabulary). Although I already practice before I teach, I’m still felt nervous to meet new students. I think I already did my best on teaching but there are some improvements that I have to concern. For example I spoke too fast and gave unclear instruction to the students. It made the students confused with the activity they have to do. To deal with this problem, I got a suggestion to slow down my speech.
